Background
Lawrence leads CGD's communications programs including publications, media relations, events, and electronic communications. Since joining the Center in October 2004 he has greatly expanded its reach by integrating these activities and establishing a new contacts database. Previously, as senior communications officer at the World Bank, he championed the creation of a communications measurement system, provided strategic communications advice to successive chief economists, coordinated the preparation of Bank research publications and created the World Bank Research web site. He was founding editor of the Bank's Policy Research Report series and launched two innovative yet enduring web tools: the Bank's Online Media Briefing Center and the International AIDS Economic Network (IAEN), a virtual community.
Before joining the World Bank he worked in East and Southeast Asia for 15 years as a reporter and editor for The Asian Wall Street Journal, Agence France Presse, and Asiaweek Magazine.
